Review: Urban Decay - Glinda Palette

I was eyeing this palette for a really long time before I caved in and purchased it. I must've gone into Sephora and swatched it like at least 5 times. So when the VIB Chic Week code came around, I jumped at a chance to get this Urban Decay Oz the Great and Powerful Glinda Palette ($49). Now I warn you because I know this is going to be quite a long post. I'm going to be reviewing the entire set, meaning the shadows, the liner and the lip gloss pencil. So be ready for a lot of writing.

The huge selling point on this palette for me were the shadows of course. To be honest, I don't have any shades like the ones included. But the shade that really caught my eye and stayed in my mind all those times I went to swatch it was Aura. It's actually a two-in-one shade with one half being a violet iridescent and the other half being a rose iridescent shade.

Now it might seem silly to purchase a $49 palette just because of one shade, but the other shadows were just as intriguing to me. Tornado is a dark purple shimmer that is unlike anything in my collection. Magic is a light dusty pink which reminds me of the Candy Rose shade in my Too Faced Shadow Bon Bons palette. Illusion is your standard peach shade with a satin finish that can easily be used all over the lid or possibly as a brow bone highlight. Oz is clearly another standout shade in this palette as it is another two-in-one with a chunky gold glitter and chunky bluish silver shade. And finally, South is your standard silver shimmer.

The pigmentation of these shades are all very impressive except for Magic and Illusion. They are more sheer than the other colors and it might also be because they contain a satin finish as opposed to a shimmer/glitter. As for their longevity, they last all day without fading with the help of my Urban Decay Primer Potion.

However, a huge downfall of this palette for me is the packaging. It absolutely drives me nuts. The palette looks beautiful with all the sparkles and the pastel shades, but the physical properties of the palette are awful. For one, it feels like a cheap aluminum case and my shadows constantly pop out! Tornado fell out shortly after I took these photos and now it's got a huge indent in the middle and Oz refuses to actually pop in so it's constantly rocking around in there.

The palette also came with an Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the shade Rockstar. I'm a huge fan of UD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils because of their amazing pigmentation and longevity. This eyeliner is a deep plum shade that matches very well with the shadows given in the palette. My go to eye look with this palette at the moment is Tornado all over the lid, South in the crease and Aura on the brow bone with the Rockstar liner smudged out on my top lash line.

Then there is the Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Color in the shade Glinda, which I'm assuming by the name that it is exclusive to this palette. I've never owned a UD Super Saturated High Gloss Color before but this one has definitely got me hooked. It's a pinky nude shade that is pretty much a "your lips but better" color. The formulation of the product is very light with a high gloss shine. It's like a skinnier and more pigmented Tarte LipSurgence.

Overall, I'm glad I purchased this palette since it gives me more shades to play with along with a new liner shade and totally new to me lip product. I would say that it's really up to preference when it comes to whether or not you should buy this palette because it is very pricey at $49 and these honestly aren't shades that you can't live without. I'm sure you could find some great drugstore dupes or other cheaper alternatives. But overall, the shadows are wonderful even though the packaging is crap and I'm really enjoying the liner and lip color.

    1. I always tell myself I'll finish the palettes I have first, but I always end up caving in. This was definitely worth it for me though since I have no shades like the ones in the palette :P
