Review: beautyblender

I always wondered what all the hype was about this tapered egg-shaped hot pink sponge. YT gurus, makeup artists and beauty bloggers like myself were always raving about this thing. So I caved in and bought the Beautyblender Duo Set ($39.95) from Sephora. Clearly, I must have been missing out on something.

When I first got it I was like "How the heck do I use this thing? But seriously, what makes this overpriced sponge so amazing?" And after the first use, I was hooked.

As you can see, the duo set came with two beautyblenders and a blendercleanser. I really didn't want to buy two, it's just that Sephora had sold out of the single set and I heard that the Blendercleanser was the best cleanser to use to preserve the life of the sponge. And with a price tag like $19.95 for one, I wanted to preserve the living daylights out of this tool.

Eventually, I figured out how to use the beautyblender, all it took was reading the back of the packaging. The beautyblender is made to be used wet, meaning you need to run it under some lukewarm water and squeeze it til it absorbs all the water it can. Wring it dry and you will see it has expanded to almost twice it's original size.

I honestly can't see myself using anything else to apply my foundation/bb cream and concealer for quite a while. I use the egg-shaped bottom for face makeup and the tapered top to blend concealer into the areas around my nose and eyes. It really gives an airbrushed and flawless finish and seems to deposit the perfect amount of product. So, goodbye cake face!
I'd definitely recommend this product to anyone and everyone because I truly believe it's worth the money. If you think about it, you'd probably pay the same amount or even more for a high quality foundation brush that may or may not work well for you. This little sponge is almost fool-proof and according to the packaging one sponge will last you somewhere between 3-6 months. Now I'm really happy I got the two-pack because I know that when I finally use my beautyblender to death, I'll definitely be reaching for that backup.

    1. Yeah, I was going to get just the sponge alone but I heard that the cleanser helps to extend the life of the beautyblender and given how expensive it is I was willing to splurge some more to keep it alive for as long as possible!

    1. I might try to find my own beautyblender dupe eventually. I've heard that nothing is quite as good as the original though.
