Review: Shiseido Eyelash Curler

One of the greatest weapons in my makeup tools arsenal has always been my eyelash curler. I have medium length lashes that like to stick straight and refuse to hold a curl. And if you have eyelashes anything like mine, you'll know how important it is to have an eyelash curler that works for you and a mascara that will help to hold your curl.

I purchased this Shiseido Eyelash Curler ($19) when I went to Barneys to pick up some products for my mom. I bought it because I had heard it was great for Asian eyes, whatever that means, and my beloved Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler had finally become so loose that it could hardly curl my lashes anymore. To be honest, I would have gone and repurchased another one from Shu Uemura but they're extremely difficult to find in stores and online. I figured I should find a more convenient alternative and this looked to be my best bet.

Unfortunately, it was very hard to work with from the beginning. The eyelash curler is not as curved as its Shu Uemura counterpart and I had an awful time pinching my lids and actually hitting my eyeball with it. After a few days of trial and error, I finally became accustomed to using it and now I don't pinch my lids nearly as much. However, I'm still not a huge fan. The curler is still somewhat difficult to navigate around my eye and I have a hard time curling the lashes in the corners of my lid. It also doesn't give as dramatic a curl as my Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler did and my lashes need all the curling help they can get.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this Shiseido Eyelash Curler to anyone who has a difficult time curling their lashes. It doesn't really make the process any easier, which to me means its really not worth the $19 I paid for it. I feel it's no different from a drugstore eyelash curler that costs a fraction of the price. If anybody has any eyelash curlers they swear by, please leave it in a comment below!

  1. Too bad that this doesn't work for you, considering is fairly expensive as well.
I still swear by my Shu Uemura, I do't think anything will ever compare.

  3. Aw sorry this one didn't work out for you. I really like the Urban Decay one but I don't think they're selling them anymore. It had a lot of mixed reviews, but I find that it works well for my lashes
