Independence Day Nails

To all my readers who live in the states: Happy Independence Day! Our beautiful country gained its independence on this day back in 1776. Whether you're barbecuing outside or staying in and eating apple pie like me, it's a great day to be celebrating. To get into the festive spirit I decided last night to try my hand at a 4th of July inspired nail design.

While there are numerous Independence Day designs online to choose from, I naturally gravitated towards this one by Janelle of Elleandish. If you'd like to give this nail art look a try you can check out Janelle's 4th of July Nails tutorial on YouTube.

I didn't have the stamping plates she used in her video so I had to be resourceful and work with what I had. For the stripes on the pointer finger I freehanded them by drawing the lines with the side of my brush. As for the stars on the middle finger I used these star rhinestones that I had in my collection. I also added my own take on the fireworks design on the thumb by brushing glitter on top of the fireworks to make them more sparkly.
