Review: MAC Blacktrack Fluidline

I don't typically reach for gel eyeliner but I've recently been getting back into the softer yet still precise look that it gives. I previously owned the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($24) but after having it for around 3 years the product finally dried up. Instead of repurchasing the Bobbi Brown liner I decided to try the ever-popular MAC Blacktrack Fluidline ($16).

The liner comes in a glass container with a black top, very MAC-esque. There is 0.1 oz of product in the jar, which is the same amount of product as there was in the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. The liner looks incredibly creamy and soft, which is a good representation of how the liner goes on. It glides onto your lids easily but it does not smudge or travel during application.

The color is a true black and it has a soft powdery finish. My only dilemma is that I tend to tear a lot so the product disappears after a few hours in the outer-corners of my eyes. I'd say it lasts about 4-5 hours before fading or completely disintegrating away. I wore this out one night, looked in the mirror and saw the tail-end of my cat-eye liner was completely missing!

MAC Blacktrack Fluidline would probably be the perfect gel eyeliner if it had better staying power. Everything from the color to the consistency is on point, but the fact that it starts to fade in the outer-corners of my eye makes it a somewhat fail product for me. I figure I could probably go over the gel liner with a black eyeshadow to help the staying power but that's way too many steps for me. I will not be repurchasing this product and I might even end up returning it, which is such a bummer because I had heard so many great things about this gel liner.

  1. Have you tried the wet n wild gel liner? I had that one before, and that one was pretty good. It didn't budge, and the staying power is great. :)

  3. Aw it sucks that the staying power isn't as strong. I've been using Maybelline's and MUFE's gel liners. I like them both :D
